'Far Cry 5' Release Date: New Footage Reveal 2 Returning Characters; Game to Boast Biggest Map in Franchise History
"Far Cry 5" will feature a couple of familiar faces, if the latest leaks are anything to go by.
Eagle-eyed gamers took to Reddit to share their discovery of two staples. One is the baddie Willis Huntley, who was introduced in the third major installment of the series and returned in the latest one for a short antagonist role.
Willis was spotted by a Reddit user during a 15-minute gameplay walkthrough of "Far Cry 5." Gamers appear to be excited to see him and others are just glad they can get another shot at putting him down.
Also up for a comeback is Hurk, who is glimpsed in the one-minute mark of the new "Far Cry 5" trailer titled "Resistance." There is no confirmation yet that it is him though, but there is no mistaking the beard and bandana.
However, it could end up being just a custom character made to look like him. To some, the supposed explosive devices expert looked a tad slimmer and the face is a bit different too.
Either way, fans of the character are hoping that Hurk will find his way back to "Far Cry 5." The addition of Willis has many hoping that this will be the case.
Meanwhile, a Redditor who got the chance to try "Far Cry 5" for three hours at a press event said that the Montana setting in the installment is "definitely the biggest map" in any "Far Cry" game. He described it as "super beautiful," going so far as to say that it is "one of the best looking games I've ever played."
The Reddit user also revealed some notable moments during his test-drive including the fact that "everyone refers to you as Deputy, and at least from what I played your character doesn't speak."
As far as weapons go, he said that there are silencers and snipers available in "Far Cry 5" with different skins available for purchase for each weapon.
Where "Far Cry 5" is earning some flak is the story. While its massive world and gameplay are being praised, media outlets believe the game is capitalizing on current events but never really engaging in the issue it features.
The game features the villain Joseph Seed, a guns-and-Bible demagogue who takes control of a remote location. He often quotes the bible and speaks in apocalyptic terms.
Polygon says that it is one "morally dubious mess" and that Ubisoft "exploits the iconography of racism" although game director Dan Hay says fans just need to play more.
"Far Cry 5" releases March 27 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
