'Fargo' Season 2 to Have the '70s Look, Says Creator Noah Hawley.
With 18 Emmy nominations received by season 1 and a stellar cast this coming season, "Fargo" Season 2 is a hugely anticipated series and creator Noah Hawley is excited to be able to create a totally different look from Season 1.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association while presenting the show, Noah Hawley said that "Fargo" Season 2 is a "complete reinvention."
"It is a completely new story. It evokes the things you remember from the movie and at the end of the first year," he adds.
"Fargo" Season 2 is set in 1979. This was the time when American soldiers were returning from Vietnam, the oil crisis and Ronald Reagan. Hawley is excited about blending all these elements into this season and creating a '70s backdrop for the prequel.
He has also used some '70s editing devices to achieve the look.
Hawley used split screens and freezes to allow screen space to a lot of characters as Season 2 is a large ensemble of characters. He said, "I found my way to '70s filmmaking paradigms. I had a much bigger cast [this year], and I wanted to keep track of all of them."
Hawley has enhanced the '70s look by giving the characters "a different set of emotions" that will resonate with the '70s.
Viewers will recall that in Season 1, Lou mentioned his days as a police officer but it was never revealed how he became a diner owner. In the coming season, it is this part of Lou Solverson that is to be the focus. In "Fargo" Season 2, a young police officer Lou, played by Patrick Wilson, will be solving the case of a Sioux Falls diner along with his partner Hank, played by Ted Danson.
The other highlight of the new season is an excellent cast. Patrick Wilson plays young Lou Solverson who has recently returned from Vietnam. Ted Danson will play the sheriff of Sioux Falls. Kristen Dunst and Jesse Plemons come in as a young married couple and Jean Smart is the mother whose son is involved in the Lou Solverson case.
