'Fast and Furious' News: Vin Diesel Reveals Work Has Been Done on Developing Character Stories For Future Films
The successful "Fast and Furious" franchise could soon see some expansion as it gains its own cinematic universe.
It was reported that Vin Diesel recently shared some details about the franchise. According to Variety, Diesel spoke about the future of the "Fast and Furious" franchise. It was revealed that the upcoming "Fast and Furious 8" will not be the last installment of the series.
While there is already an upcoming film under F. Gary Gray's direction in the works, Diesel explained that they have already started planning the upcoming prequels and spin-offs for "Fast and Furious." It seems as though the franchise will receive its own cinematic universe, much like Marvel films.
Diesel explained, "We've written out story lines for various characters, we've been playing with it for a long time and it's a very rich property and we're committed to treating it with a lot of class." With that, the chairman for Universal Pictures, Donna Langley, also revealed some information about the direction of the new films and how it will help them expand the franchise. She said that they will take this opportunity to maximize the ensemble cast of the franchise. With that, they will work on developing the story.
Jeff Shell, the chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, also explained why they are eager to begin this phase of the franchise. He said, "You can't keep having every movie have bigger and bigger stunts forever and ever and ever. Eventually you have to really focus on the story. We'll still have big stunts but bringing in this amazing storyteller is going to be great."
While there has yet to be details on what exactly the plot of the upcoming films will be, fans can expect that the "Fast and Furious" franchise will soon evolve.
