'Fate/Apocrypha' Episode 13 Spoilers: Did the Apocryphal Saint Return to Save the World or Avenge Himself?

Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia, the leader of the Black Faction, is dead and the identity of Shirou Kotomine, the Red Faction's leader, has been exposed. What new and exciting turns will the upcoming episode of the Japanese fantasy series, "Fate/ Apocrypha" take when it airs its 13th episode?

As it turns out, Shirou is none other than Amakusa Shirou Tokisada, who was himself a Servant of the Ruler-class during the Third Holy Grail War, also known as the Fuyuki Grail War that happened sixty years ago. He might've efficiently hidden his true identity up to this point, but an unexpected encounter with the current Ruler-class servant, Jeanne d'Arc, exposed him for who he really is.

But what could he possibly mean by wanting to save mankind, and from what? Could it be that he's been planning to put an end to the Holy Grail Wars once and for all? Or does this have everything to do with what he intends to ask from the Grail?

Will Shirou turn out to be the real savior all along, or will the Black and Red Servants be forced to once again unite to take down a potentially mutual enemy?

Also, was the mystery behind Shirou's identity the very thing that Jeanne has been feeling inexplicably anxious about? Or is the ongoing Great Holy Grail War a far more dangerous battleground than the current Ruler-class could've expected?

Fans of the series have also pointed out the now very clear reference of the title to Shirou himself, who is considered an apocryphal saint who was beheaded at the young age of 16 for inciting a Christian rebellion against the Shogunate. His alleged final words spoke of his vengeful return in the future.

If this is so, then what kind of revenge could Shirou be thinking, and who would be the target of this vengeful wrath? Will the combined forces of the Servants be enough to defeat him, or is the world headed for its irreversible end?

"Fate/Apocrypha" airs on Saturdays at midnight JST on Tokyo MX, BS 11, Gumma TV and Togi TV. It also airs on Tuesdays late night at 3:30 a.m. JST on MBS.
