Father's Day Ceremony Spurred by Hit Film 'Courageous' Today
Co-writers of the hit film "Courageous" Stephen and Alex Kendrick have announced the Men of Honor Simulcast to take place Friday as Father's Day approaches.
In the events leading up to Father's Day, the Kendrick brothers will host a 2-hour simulcast Friday which will feature actors and special guests from the film as well as live praise and worship.
"I am excited about what we have to say over the course of two hours," Alex Kendrick told The Christian Post, noting that 70,000 people are signed up to tune into the simulcast.
"I am excited for men to identify things in their life that need change and offer them a plan of action to engage more, apologize, and move closer to God all while healing and encouraging leadership," the co-writer, actor, and producer of "Courageous" continued.
Alternatively, Stephen Kendrick also spoke with CP revealing what he is most looking forward to during the simulcast Friday.
"Watching God work is always exciting," he said. "Seeing men commit to Christ and leaving that legacy for the kids and setting an example where the Lord helps them and they help each other."
Kendrick noted that he is less nervous about addressing such a large audience Friday because his greater fear is failing the Lord.
Most importantly, the simulcast will feature a Resolution Ceremony similar to the stirring Resolution scene in "Courageous" in which a group of fathers touched by tragedy publicly resolve to be the godly leaders of their families.
Noting that the resolutions involved are taken from Scripture, Alex Kendrick said that signing the documents means taking accountability for one's actions.
"[The Resolution Ceremony] is not a promise of perfection, but a commitment to direction," explained the actor.
The event will serve as a model for similar ceremonies to take place in many churches on Father's Day. Hundreds of men will stand up, affirm their commitment to the Resolution's principles, and sign a copy this Sunday.
To view Friday's event for just $5 per venue- whether home or auditorium- log onto Lifeway.com/MenofHonor.
The live simulcast will see guests that include Ed Litton, the senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala., and a round table with "Courageous" actors Robert Amaya, Ken Bevel, Kevin Downes, and Daniel Simmons.
Although the simulcast is entitled Men of Honor, the Kendricks assured CP that women are more than welcome to tune in. Also, "The Resolution for Women" is a novel by Priscilla Shirer which helps women specifically focus on honoring God as a wife, mother, and family member.
"Courageous" opened in theaters last fall, and since its DVD release, has sold over a million copies. This Father's Day, churches across the world are planning activities to further extend the film's vital message.
