FCA Launches Cheerleading Ministry
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has launched a cheerleading ministry, chalking up a ninth sports ministry to utilize the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ.
Leading FCA Cheerleading will be Marilou Braswell, a former University of Georgia cheerleader and cheer coach who has been on staff with FCA since October 2007. Braswell had helped establish FCA Cheerleading ministries in the state of Georgia.
"We want to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all cheerleaders in the United States," commented Braswell.
"Cheerleaders are leaders in our schools and when they are on fire for Jesus, it can change an entire campus," she exclaimed.
Since the summer of 2005, FCA has been holding an average of five cheerleading camps per year. The ministry has also established a partnership with the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA), an organization that provides high-quality training for college and high school cheerleaders.
Regarding her new role as the national director of FCA Cheerleading, Braswell said she was excited and has her sights set on more camps in more states and on allowing the Lord to touch more lives through FCA Cheerleading.
The new sports ministry is the ninth to be established under FCA, which already has ministries in Golf, Lacrosse, Baseball, Endurance, Hockey, Motocross, Skateboarding and Health and Fitness.
Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has focused on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Jesus Christ. As the largest Christian sports organization in America, FCA challenges coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Christ.
