FedEx Shooting: 6 Injured, Shooter Dead After Gunfire in GA (VIDEO)
A FedEx shooting resulted in six people being injured and the suspect dead after his suicide, according to reports. The violence occurred a little before 6 a.m. at a FedEx warehouse at the Cobb County Airport in Kennesaw, Ga.
The FedEx shooting apparently began with the suspect shooting the security guard on the premises, one employee Michael Hogland told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. From there, he began firing on others in the area, wounding five others. Initially, Cobb County police reported an active and ongoing incident, but by 9 a.m., the dead body of the suspect was being carried out from the bay area of the warehouse.
"We are confirming that the suspect in this case is deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," authorities said in a statement.
Police officers swept the building and assessed to make sure no other threats were present. Hundreds of cops swarmed the area from various agencies in the area, and the six victims were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
"Some were able to walk off the ambulance and others are in the operating room," Tyler Pearson, the hospital spokesman, told Reuters. The security guard was in critical condition at the time of their arrival, and some of the injured are currently in surgery.
FedEx released a statement saying that their "primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of [their] team members" and that they are "cooperating with authorities" regarding the incident. Later on another statement was released, this time directed to those affected.
"We can confirm that an incident occurred early Tuesday morning at a FedEx Ground facility in Kennesaw, Georgia," company spokesman Scott Fiedler told ABC News. "Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends ... The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy."
The shooter was a former employee of the company, according to the latest reports.
