Fergie on 'X Factor'? Icon Could Be a New Judge
Superstar Fergie may be headed to the judge's seat on Fox's musical competition series, "The X-Factor," though producer Simon Cowell is not sharing any secrets with the media.
The show has been looking for new judges ever since Cheryl Cole was fired and replaced with Nicole Scherzinger. She served as one of the three judges alongside Paula Abdul, Cowell's former co-star on "American Idol." Steve Jones, who also starred on the series, will no longer be returning.
None of the original judges will be returning and Cowell is scrambling to replace all three judges before the second season starts. Auditions for the show begin in 24 days, and there is considerable pressure to fill the positions.
Hence the talks with pop icon Fergie.
"There have been some conversations," Life & Style magazine reports. "It's in the early stages, but Fergie's the one who approached the producers about joining the panel. She may have stiff competition, as there are rumors that Britney Spears and LeAnn Rimes are also being considered for the position.
Cowell is careful not to give anything away, though.
"I can't confirm or deny anything right now," he said on Good Day New York. "The truth is, we are talking to a number of people. It changes on a daily basis to be honest with you. You've gotta (sic) talk to everybody."
"I always wanted a boy and a girl to host the show," he revealed. "And I like hosts who don't kind of have a hosting background, you know. I like them when they've done acting and stuff like that. It's a different kind of dynamic."
Fergie certainly fits that category; she has acted since 1986 and been a performer and recording artist since 1992. She is currently married to fellow actor Josh Duhamel and a member of the multi-award-winning group The Black Eyed Peas.
This would not be the first time that Fergie would appear on Fox's show. In 2011 she was a performer on the smash hit "American Idol."
