'FIFA 18' Takes No. 1 Spot on UK Sales Chart; 60 Percent of Copies Sold on First Week for PS4
Electronic Arts' "FIFA 18" has started strong and has taken the no. 1 spot of the U.K. sales chart at the first week of its release. Meanwhile, a report also showed that 60 percent of the game's copies sold were for the PlayStation 4.
"FIFA 18" is this year's installment of EA's popular soccer simulation video game licensed to base most of its gameplay elements on actual game results and player statistics in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA.
The game was released on Sept. 29 and immediately dominated the U.K. sales chart for that week, thus dethroning the highly popular online multiplayer and first-person shooter video game "Destiny 2."
When "Destiny 2" was released on Sept. 6, it also held the no. 1 spot for three consecutive weeks until "FIFA 18" was launched.
According to the GfK Chart-Track website, 97 percent of the copies sold for "FIFA 18" were for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. However, notably 60 percent from that portion was for Sony's flagship console. The report attributed that success to Sony and EA's partnership in offering "a varied selection of official 'FIFA 18' hard bundles."
Meanwhile, the remaining 3 percent of the total sales for "FIFA 18's" first week release was divided by other consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, PS3 and Xbox 360.
As "FIFA 18" climbs to the top, Bungie's "Destiny 2" did not fall far behind and is sitting on the no. 2 spot. "Forza Horizon 3" saw a huge improvement and went up to no. 3 (from no. 9) for the first October week. "Grand Theft Auto V" takes no. 5 while Activision's successful remastered game "Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy" is at no. 6.
So far, for 2017, "Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy" remains the game with the most number of times it was on top of the sales chart. Since its release in late June, it was named no. 1 for at least seven times.
Notably, the 2013-released "Grand Theft Auto V" still has what it takes to claim the no. 1 spot at the sales chart every now and then – four in total, so far.
Meanwhile, both "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands" and "Destiny 2" were lucky enough to hit the top place for at least three times this year.
