'Fifty Shades of Grey' Lead Actor Jamie Dornan Is Not Leaving Franchise, Despite Rumors Wife Wants Him Out
Despite recent reports that Jamie Dornan was planning to leave the "Fifty Shades of Grey" franchise and not return as male lead Chris Grey in the upcoming sequel, his rep confirmed Wednesday that he isn't going anywhere.
In a statement released to Us Weekly Dornan's rep said, "Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film."
Dornan, the actor who plays male lead Christian Grey in the film "Fifty Shades of Grey," was rumored to be leaving the franchise under his wife's wishes.
His wife, actress Amelia Warner, had reportedly expressed her unhappiness with her husband's role and future performances that would've been in sequels to the wildly popular series, according to a report from Australian magazine NW.
Warner, who has a 15-month-old daughter with Dornan, was said to be unhappy with the explicit sex scenes in the film.
NW magazine also quoted a source who said Dornan believed the film would skyrocket his career, and he tried to assure his wife that it wouldn't change anything; however, it has led to women all over the world lusting after him. The source also claims that his wife has not seen the film and probably never will.
Us Weekly broke the news Wednesday that the rumors were untrue and that Dornan would return for "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequels which will follow the rest of the books in the series.
The series also lost its director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, earlier this week after clashing with author EL James over creative differences. The writer reportedly wants the films to follow her books exactly and Taylor-Johnson seems to have a different vision.
Despite the surrounding controversy, the film has been able to top the charts in both the U.S. and U.K. "Fifty Shades" took in $94 million during its opening weekend. It also made over $400 million in just two weeks.
The film has come under fire for its sexual content from some in the Christian community.
Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cincinnati Dennis Schnurr proposed that church goers boycott the film shortly before its release.
"The movie is in direct contrast to the Christian message of God's design for self-giving and self-sacrificing love, marriage and sexual intimacy. The movie is a direct assault on Christian marriage and on the moral and spiritual strength of God's people," said Schnurr in a Facebook post earlier this month.
