'Fifty Shades of Grey' Nearly Gets Man Jailed for Slapping, 'Saucing' Girlfriend
"Fifty Shades of Grey" has earned criticism from many for its seemingly pornographic nature, but one critic took it too far when he set out to teach his girlfriend a lesson about being "saucy."
Raymond Hodgson, 31, nearly landed himself in jail when he decided to protest his girlfriend's reading selection. His girlfriend, Emma McCormick, had recently joined the bandwagon of women who have fallen for the fantastical Christian Grey. "Fifty Shades of Grey" has received much criticism because the entire novel is based on S&M and bondage.
Hodgson was disappointed to find out that his girlfriend of five years had been reading a novel that he considered "pornographic" and insisted that she get rid of the book. His insistence led to a full-blown argument.

"Mr. Hodgson thought that the book was pornographic, and that she should not read such literature," prosecuting attorney Adrienne Harris stated, according to Mail Online. "The argument continued into the following day, with the two exchanging text messages."
When Hodgson found his girlfriend relentless and unwilling to budge on the issue or stop reading the book, he made up his mind to pay her a visit and show her "what saucy really meant."
"He went to her home at 7 p.m. on June 26 and took with him a bottle of brown sauce," Harris said. "She answered the door and the argument continued. She went to close the door and he jammed his foot into the door, slapped her once in the face, and then squirted her with this bottle of sauce."
When questioned about his actions by police, Hodgson said he felt "Fifty Shades Of Grey" was a "distasteful" and "pornographic" book, according to Mail Online. Hodgson denied slapping his girlfriend but admitted that he had squirt sauce in her face, although he later regretted his actions.
The judge still fined Hodgson nearly $300 and also imposed a 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. curfew for the next six weeks in addition to a 6-month community order. The judge reasoned that "Hodgson's actions had clearly been intended to demean Miss McCormick."
