'Final Fantasy 15' News: Director Teases User Avatar for Multiplayer Mode

A lot of new content will be released for "Final Fantasy 15." Game director Hajime Tabata recently discussed one of these much-awaited post-launch offerings — the multiplayer mode.

In an interview with Polygon, he revealed a few details about the highly anticipated "Final Fantasy 15" feature although he was careful not to completely spill the beans.

"There are a lot of things I can't really say about the multiplayer future just yet, but it will tie into the game — the main game — at some point in the story," Tabata said.

"And for the multiplayer feature, we are less focused on playing as the four main characters but rather as an avatar that the user creates themselves. So rather than having you and your friends play as these four guys and experience their journey again together, it's more about the journey that you and your friends have together with each other in this world," he went on to say.

Polygon believes that the "Final Fantasy 15" multiplayer that Square Enix is building reflects the idea of fans about the feature. It is believed that the multiplayer mode will explore the decade's worth of time that was unexplored in the main game.

It is speculated that the mode will allow players to use the main game's assets through a cooperative approach in the story mode's combat system, trading AI companions with other players.

There is no word yet when the multiplayer mode for "Final Fantasy 15" will be rolled out. Tabata's statement suggests there is still a long way to go before it sees the light of day.

Thankfully, fans can make themselves busy with other content coming to the game. "Episode Gladiolus," the first major downloadable content (DLC) for "Final Fantasy 15," will be released on March 28.

Priced at $4.99, the expansion will focus on Gladio, one of the companions of Noctis. It will follow him as he trains with Cor by taking on "larger than life" monsters, as Square Enix describes them.
