'Final Fantasy 7 Remake': Will the Party Members Function Differently While Participating in Battles?

Party members known as 'gunners,' including Barret, may feature special elements inside the 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake'

Developers have already revealed that they are making big changes to the battle system that will be included in the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," sharing previously that fans can expect to see more action-packed sequences. However, exactly how this will affect specific characters has not been detailed in full just yet.

As fans who played the original may remember, not all of the playable characters inside the game work the exact same way.

For example, Barret Wallace and Vincent Valentine can deal the same amounts of damage even from range since they use firearms, while others such as Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart need to work within close range if they are to remain effective.

During a recent interview with Famitsu, director Tetsuya Nomura hinted that the close range and long range fighters may again work differently inside the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," but with at least one new element added to the mix.

A translation of the interview was released by the folks over at Gematsu, and according to it, Nomura indicated that the cover actions used inside the remake may differ for Cloud and Barret.

Nomura noted that Barret can also use cover actions like Cloud but that "there is a special element in gunners."

The "gunners" Nomura may be referring to here are the long range fighters and it seems as though they will play at least slightly differently from their melee weapon-wielding companions.

Perhaps players will have more control over how the characters are deployed on the battlefield, and while melee fighters will always need to close in on the opponents to deal damage, those with long range weapons may be able to remain deadly from afar, possibly even working effectively as snipers.

In any case, it certainly seems like the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake's" battle system will be one that fans of the original will have to get used to, as it may not closely resemble the one featured in "Final Fantasy 7."
