Final Fantasy VI for Android Release Date Arrives This Week
The Final Fantasy VI Android-based port will be available in the Google Play store sometime this evening.
Unfortunately, the title will only be released for several European countries so U.S. smartphone users will have to wait a bit longer to play this classic game. This new version will be slightly enhanced from older ports found on the PS One and Super NES.

The game will cost £10.99/£14.99 and will be available in English, German, French and Spanish. It is not clear if other European countries will receive it in un-localized versions.
The mobile version of Final Fantasy VI will be in 2D, making it different from the versions of FF 3 and FF 4 that also came to the Android platform in recent years.
Despite not making the jump to 3D, the game is still expected to feature superior graphics to the original SNES version that was released in the early 1990s. The battles will also be re-balanced making them less tedious.
The company recently commented on the possibility of Final Fantasy VII, a title which is arguably the most popular out of the series, arriving on Android.
"We are aware that we have tons of VII fans," said Square-Enix. "We have VII fans in our own company. If [Final Fantasy VI] works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII."
This is not exactly a confirmation, but it is safe to say that the mobile version of FFVI will become a favorite for gamers and Android users, making FFVII a no-brainer for future releases.
Gamers in the U.S. received the sixth installment of the RPG series through the SNES console in 1994. However, the game was re-titled Final Fantasy VI in order to keep with the sequence of the series in the U.S. as not every version was ported from Japan. The original 2 and 3 did not make it to the states until they were re-designed for the Nintendo DS in the early to mid-2000s.
