"Final Fantasy VII" Remake Update: Developer Says Battle System in "Trial-and-Error" Phase

It has been a while since the release of a "Final Fantasy" video game. The latest game of the media franchise was in 2010, when it released "Final Fantasy XIV," which was later relaunched as "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" in 2013, which was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting the series' next installment, "Final Fantasy XV," which is slated for release in 2016.

Given that reboots and remakes are an ongoing trend even in the gaming industry these days, it was not surprising to hear that Square Enix and Sony announced during the E3 2015 that they were doing a remake of one of the older "Final Fantasy" titles, that of "Final Fantasy VII," exclusive for the Sony PlayStation 4. "Final Fantasy VII" is considered to be the best-selling title of the "Final Fantasy" series.

According to a report in IGN, the producer in-charge of the remake provided an update about the status of the remake. Yoshinori Kitase, who was speaking to Famitsu (via Gematsu) said that the visuals of the game are "starting to come together." However, when it comes to the game's battle system, a lot of work still needs to be done in this aspect.

In an earlier report, Kitase had already cited that the existing battle system of the game which was turn-based needed to be updated. In this recent update, Kitase said, "On the other hand, we're currently working out the battle system and such through trial-and-error. Since there's a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we're thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it."

When it came to the game's visuals, Kitase acknowledged that they were making progress in this area. He also said that they were still looking for ways to surprise players with a game that looks much like the old role-playing game that "Final Fantasy VII" is known as, but with some new elements.
