Fire HD 10 Release Date, Specs: Amazon Updates Tablet With 1080p Resolution and More While Cutting Down the Price
Amazon recently announced that a refresh was made on their Fire HD 10 2013 tablet that gave it a 1080p resolution screen plus an array of major upgrades while cutting down its price by $80.
One of the notable upgrades made on the new Fire HD 10 tablet was its 10.1-inch screen that now had Full High-Definition or a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution – a major leap from the 1,280 x 800 resolution found on the 2013 version.
Amazon also upgraded the tablet's core technical specifications, which now feature a quad-core processor with a 1.8-gigahertz base clock speed. However, Amazon is keeping quiet on who manufactured the processing chip. The Fire HD 10 tablet will also operate with a modified version of its Android operating system.
The new tablet comes with a bigger random access memory of 2 GB and offers 32 GB or 64 GB of built-in storage plus a microSD slot that can accommodate an additional 256 GB memory. The older version only supported an internal memory of 8 GB or 16 GB without the possibility of adding an external drive.
Another hard-to-miss addition on the 2017 Fire HD 10 tablet is the 2-megapixel camera. The older Fire HD 10 tablet did not have any image-capturing features.
The newly-announced tablet also benefits from the platforms that Amazon developed in the last couple of years. It comes with its own artificial intelligent smart assistant, Alexa, that owners can command to "to pause videos, play music, open apps, show sports scores, display the weather, and more" while on hands-free mode. Amazon promised to add more functions supported by Alexa in upcoming software updates.
Users with a Prime subscription will also be given exclusive access to an entirely free library of "over a thousand books and magazines, millions of songs, and thousands of movies and TV episodes."
Unlike other major tablets in the market, however, Amazon has not yet added cellular connectivity to the upgraded Fire HD 10.
According to reports back in 2013, the older Fire HD 10 tablet was priced $229 at the minimum. Now, Amazon is offering the base model of Fire HD 10 at $149.99.
Pre-orders are now accepted at Amazon but the tablet will be shipped on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
