First 'Assassin's Creed' movie images of Michael Fassbender released.
The Internet got its first look at Michael Fassbender as a hooded assassin in the film adaptation of "Assassin's Creed."
Four years after Ubisoft's popular historical action-adventure video game, "Assassin's Creed" was announced for a mainstream film adaptation, photos of actor Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch have appeared online.
Fassbender, who has been attached to the 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft Motion Pictures project since July 2012, will be playing the role of Callum Lynch, whose genetic memories are unlocked and he discovers his ancestor, Aguilar de Agarorobo, was an assassin during the 15th Century Spanish Inquisition.
Fassbender, who will be playing both Lynch and his ancestor de Agarorobo, is set to gain an assassin's knowledge and skills he will be using to go head-to-head against present day Knights Templar.
Fassbender's character, Lynch, while not appearing in any of the 22 existing "Assassin's Creed" titles, has been specifically created for the film, and while the movie won't be depicting any of the storylines that have appeared in the games so far, it is reported to be sharing a continuity with the game series.
The game franchise's Head of Content Aymar Azaizia answered some fan questions about the upcoming film adaptation on Twitter, revealing the game and the movie will be sharing the same universe, with several elements, and even some familiar faces making an appearance in the "Assassin's Creed" movie.
Fassbender, who has previously appeared in "X-Men: First Class," "Shame," "Prometheus," and "Steve Jobs," will be joined by Oscar winner and "The Dark Knight Rises" star, Marion Cotillard, and French actress, Ariane Labed, in an as-yet-unannounced role that was previously eyed for "Ex Machina" star, Alicia Vikander.
"Snowtown" helmsman, Justin Kurzel will direct the film, with Ubisoft Motion Pictures, New Regency, Kennedy/Marshall and DMC Films producing. The upcoming movie is due to begin production at the end of August, and will be filming in Spain, London, and Malta for its December 21, 2016 theater release.
