'Five Nights at Freddy's 4' Coming in August

Freddy Fazbear and his animatronic buddies are coming to scare gamers earlier than expected. The fourth installment of the mobile horror-game "Five Nights at Freddy's" is getting an earlier release date this year. It was scheduled to be released in time for Halloween, on Oct. 31, 2015. Its release date has been moved earlier to Aug. 8.

The reason cited in the report is that the new release date is set to coincide with the one year anniversary of the first ever "Five Nights at Freddy's." The game first came out on August 8, 2014. Developed by Scott Cawthon with the help of crowdsourcing platform Greenlight, it was first available for Microsoft Windows, but mobile versions for iOS and Android were subsequently released.

Two sequels of the game immediately followed, one released in November 2014 and another released in March 2015. This coming installment is said to be the last of the series. Reception of the game has been generally positive, with the game at one time becoming one of the most downloaded games in app stores.

In the game, players need to survive a night shift as a security guard at a place called Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. While the place is famous for its animatronic band, which plays kiddie tunes during the day, it is not known to many that the place gets a lot creepier at night. These same animatronic animals transform into sinister killing machines at night. The player needs to survive from 12 midnight to 6 a.m., with limited electrical power.

Game developer Cawthon also revealed via a reply to a Reddit thread that a game update will instead be released in October as extra content for Halloween.

A film adaptation of the game is also in the works at Warner Bros. which has yet to announce a release date.
