'Flip or Flop' Couple Divorce News Update: Christina Opens Up About Split's Effect on Children
It's been months since "Flip or Flop" co-hosts and erstwhile couple Tarek and Christina El Moussa went their separate ways. But it is only recently that the 33-year-old El Moussa matriarch has begun opening up about the more personal details regarding their much publicized divorce.
The former couple quietly separated in May last year following an altercation at their Orange County home. At that point, Christina found it hard to explain what was really going on to their 6-year-old daughter, Taylor, as she revealed in a recent cover story interview with People.
At first, she said they got away by trying to be vague about it. "We're always remodeling our house or the yard, so when I moved out with the kids temporarily, we didn't really get into it, and she didn't ask," Christina shared.
It was only when she and former husband Tarek realized that reconciliation was no longer an option and that divorce was already in the cards that Christina felt the need to explain everything to Taylor. When the girl asked if her parents could still get back together, they explained to their daughter that although couples sometimes split up and get a divorce, their kids will always remain their number one priority.
"We'll always be a family," Christina said.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 35-year-old Tarek revealed that he has not completely shut the doors on the possibility of a future reconciliation between him and his ex-wife, especially after news of Christina's breakup with recent flame Gary Anderson spread over the internet.
The El Moussa patriarch mused about possibly getting back together in 10 years' time.
"Honestly, it took a lot of work to get to a good place for both of us, that I think we are at the point where we aren't looking back, we are looking towards our future," Tarek said.
The reality star and real estate agent also reminisced about better times with her ex-wife during the interview, recalling that time when they both considered each other as "absolute best friends" and "soul mates."
Can the El Moussas still rekindle their lost romance? Only time can tell. In the meantime, they would much rather focus on co-parenting their kids and filming their reality series "Flip or Flop," which airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. on HGTV.
