'Flip or Flop' News and Update: Tarek El Moussa Reveals Surviving Two Types of Cancer
HGTV's "Flip or Flop" star Tarek El Moussa recently revealed that he was also diagnosed with testicular cancer while battling thyroid cancer in 2013.
For the past few months, Tarek and former wife, Christina El Moussa, have been making headlines for their controversial split that later on led to Tarek filing for divorce.
During his latest appearance on the show "The Doctors," Tarek came clean about his testicular cancer diagnosis for the first time. They found out about the second cancer two months after he was diagnosed with the first one.
In 2013, he underwent an operation where he had his thyroid removed following the thyroid cancer diagnosis. However, according to Variety, Tarek and Christina decided to keep the second cancer diagnosis from the public.
At Tarek's "The Doctors" interview, he said having cancer wasn't the worst part of his experience and that the aftermath was harder to deal with. He added: "The physical effects it does in your body... The emotional effects having all your hormones off, having no thyroid, drops in testosterone... An emotional roller coaster, a physical roller coaster... I had 60-pound weight swings. It was very very difficult."
In the same TV appearance, Tarek said that going through two cancers and a failed marriage made him realize the importance of communication. He further explained that if he and Christina had communicated more during those times, they could have had a better relationship. According to the same Variety report, he added, "As you get busier and busier ... business, TV, then the cancer, the [second] cancer, and the back surgery, it just started pushing us apart from each other."
When asked if he regrets opting for the lifestyle of a reality star, Tarek said he does and does not regret it at the same time. He explained that "Flip or Flop" was the way for him to learn about his first cancer.
Tarek shared that, one time, a nurse from Texas was watching their show and reached out to them to suggest that he should have a doctor look into a visible lump in his throat.
Tarek is now cancer-free.
