Red flags for high winds, heavy rain, flooding and mudslides were set earlier this week as Invest 99L showed potential of becoming a huge storm. However, these were reduced to 50 percent by Friday as the disturbance did not show any more signs of becoming more organized. Meanwhile some areas along the south and east reported strong rains Friday afternoon till evening.

Forecast for the tropical disturbance

Invest 99L is expected to move along the southern region of the Florida Keys and through the Gulf of Mexico early next week. Forecasters predict that it could develop slightly within this time frame. Heavy rain could still persist in the area leading to mudslides and flash flooding especially to some parts of the Caribbean, Hispaniola and central Cuba.

People who live along the Gulf Coast were told to brace for strong winds and rain as the disturbance moves closer. Florida should expect rain which could continue till next week.

Tropical storm Gaston forecast

Another huge weather disturbance being monitored is Tropical Storm Gaston which is moving northwest with speeds of 65 mph on Friday. Gaston is the third hurricane of the year and was expected to strengthen Saturday as it moves to a region of reduced wind shear and warmer currents.

Experts also said that Gaston may become a major hurricane classified as Category 3 or maybe even higher. Gaston was spotted about 1,000 miles east-southeast of Bermuda at 4 p.m. CDT. It is moving northwest with a speed of 17 mph. forecasts said that Gaston will continue this path for a few days until it moves northeast.

Third weather disturbance

An area in the Gulf is also being monitored Friday. This area of heavy rains is over the northern part of the Gulf but shows no development till this time. It is expected to move towards Texas during the weekend. The disturbance has only 10 percent chances of developing into a storm.
