Floyd Mayweather News: Floyd Sr. Tells Son To 'Come Back Within Six Months Or Leave The Game Alone'
Floyd Mayweather Sr. has one piece of advice for his son, who is currently on the second retirement of his boxing career.
In an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio, the elder Mayweather says "Money May" should decide whether or not he would make one last boxing run within the next six months.
"I will hope one thing, if you ain't gonna fight within six months, leave the damn game alone," Mayweather Sr. said in the interview. "If you're not intending to fight between six months or seven at the most, then leave it alone because it ain't going nowhere."
Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his retirement from the sport of boxing in September, after a wide-margined victory over two-time welterweight world champion Andre Berto. Mayweather coasted through the fight and won via unanimous decision.
After the said fight, the man formerly known as "Pretty Boy" held a win-loss slate of 49-0, with 26 victories by knockout.
Many of his fellow boxers, however, do not believe that Floyd Jr. will remain retired for long and his name can still be heard in today's boxing world. Notable names such as old rival Manny Pacquiao and former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko both believe that Mayweather would at least come out for one more fight, especially because of the possibility of him surpassing the great Rocky Marciano's record of 49-0 remains to be on the table.
While Floyd Sr. is not exactly against the idea of one last run for his son, he also pointed out that it should be done sooner than later, before age fully catches up to him.
"Floyd beat the top fighters today, he beat all the ones that they talk about being top dogs, he beat them," Mayweather Sr. said. "The ones that he didn't fight, he can beat them too. Like I said, there is a saying that goes along with boxing, your age plays a part and you ain't got that much time to be wasting."
