Floyd Mayweather News: 'Money' eyed by coach as Timothy Bradley's next opponent
Despite being officially retired, Floyd Mayweather's Jr.'s name continues to be brought up in various conversations within the boxing world.
"Money May" announced his decision to hang up his boxing gloves for good after coasting through former world champion Andre Berto to win a unanimous decision during their fight in September. Mayweather left the sport of boxing with an undefeated record of 49-0 (26 victories by knockout).
But for long-time trainer Teddy Atlas, Floyd Jr. could use an opponent like Timothy Bradley, if he does decide to come out of retirement. Atlas now works with "Desert Storm", after the latter's decision to part ways with former trainer Joel Diaz.
"I don't know if everybody has forgot his name already - Mayweather - I don't know if anyone remembers his name because he has been out of the limelight for a while," Altas said in an interview with Boxingscene.com. "Maybe everyone forgot him. Maybe someone like Mayweather wants to come back for number 50 and wants to match intelligence with us. That would be interesting, if he came back to match wits with us."
On Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Bradley outclassed former world champion Brandon Rios to a ninth round stoppage victory. "Bam Bam" went on to retire from boxing after the fight, at 29 years old.
Which is why for Atlas, Bradley deserves a shot at the man who is still considered by many as the sport's pound-for-pound king.
"Give us a chance to come up with a game plan to give him a loss," Atlas continued. "I don't know, again that is in the goods hands of Monica (Bradley's wife) who has done a great job and in the hands of Bob Arum who I think has been the best promoter of the past 50 years to be quite honest. Give him his due."
