Mayweather enters the fight with 44 wins and zero losses, and is considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound boxer out there. Out of those 44 wins there have only been a few fights that have even been close, and Mayweather has dominated his opponents repeatedly over the past decade.

Not many herald Mayweather in the same league as the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis who made their names in a golden period of boxing. However, no one can take away from Mayweather that he has dominated his era, and no one can blame him for the pedigree of boxers available to him.

But that is why tonight's match up is so intriguing and has captured the imagination of boxing fans across the globe, as for once one of his opponents truly looks like he could provide a big challenge to the champ.

What has been missing from Mayweather's career until now are "classic fights" and just immense battles in the ring.

His legacy has also been soured somewhat by accusations that he has avoided the likes of Manny Pacquiao or Antonio Margarito or a prime version of Miguel Cotto. However, taking fights against the likes of Alvarez will do plenty to restore his dignity and silence his doubters, as he is considered a real threat is an attacking, exciting young fighter.

Alvarez first was noticed by wider boxing audiences when he featured on the undercard of Mayweather's 2010 pay-per-view win over Shane Mosley.

Alvarez comes into this fight with a record of 42-0-1 with 30 knock outs. He is without a doubt a very solid and exciting young fighter.
