'Food Wars! The Third Plate' Episode 3 Spoilers: Can Black Pepper Bun Keep Souma From Getting Expelled?
The 92nd Moon Festival at Totsuki Academy has begun and so has Souma Yukihara's rivalry with Elite Ten member and Sichuan cuisine expert, Terunori Kuga. How will Souma's booth cart fare against Kuga's full-blown Chinese diner on the next episode of the Japanese anime series, "Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara (Food Wars! The Third Plate)"?
The initial scare that Erina Nakiri gave Souma in the premiere episode has since dwindled under the competitive guy's much stronger will to show his new rival a good run for his money.
The threat of getting expelled should his booth end up losing money during the festival did not hold sway for too long since, as Souma himself said, the festival would run for five days with more or less 500,000 people coming by to check out their goods. Surely, he wouldn't be losing money in this kind of scenario; that is, if he could come up with a Sichuan cuisine that could far rival Kuga's.
This proved to be quite an insurmountable feat until a memory of the summers he spent with his father reminded Souma that Sichuan cuisine was not the only spicy Chinese dish. And if he could not compete with an already established taste, he should very well just create his own kind of spicy flavor.
This change in perspective eventually led to the Black Pepper Bun, a famous Taiwanese street food stuffed with ground pork rib meat filling and seasoned with black pepper.
But while this particular cuisine was a definite hit to the first two customers that bought it, the battle has only just begun, and it seems that Kuga may have a few tricks up his sleeves that could ultimately catch Souma off guard as the Moon Festival progresses.
Can Souma's Black Pepper Bun hold its own against Kuga's Sichuan cuisine right to the end of the festival? What could Kuga be planning to derail his rival's surprising success?
