Forced to Wear Sign by Mother, Dynesha Lax, as Punishment

A mother in Indiana who was fed up with her son’s bad behavior used some unconventional discipline, an exercise in public ridicule, to get her point across.

According to Dynesha Lax, her son had already been convicted of multiple felonies while only being 14-years-old. Lax feels the courts, while it does send her son through the justice system, is not being effective at discouraging her son from participating in those types of activities.

“He constantly chooses to break the law.” Lax told KSDK. “I’ve had my son in the system and he ends up getting nothing but community service. So today I decided that if he wants attention, we are going to get him some attention.”

While the teen was serving out his punishment he did draw the attention of local residents. One resident even phoned the Fort Wayne Police because they were concerned. When officers arrived they determined that Lax and her son were not breaking any laws and the punishment was allowed to continue.

“It wasn't for it to be a joke or anything funny. He just had to stand out here two hours and suddenly it blew up. Then again they've got their way of parenting and I've got mine. My object is to save my son," Lax said.

The teen did not say much during the punishment however he did tell WANE that this will make him change how he behaves.

“He doesn’t show any emotion for it, that’s the reason we’re out here," Lax said. "If he has some sympathy for what he was doing we wouldn’t be out here. I hope this makes it sink in.”

Lax explained the current court procedures are not sufficient in curtailing her son’s behavior and can be expensive.

"What else more can I do? They put him on probation and when they did probation they were quick to talk about the 300 some dollars you have to pay in fees, but nobody's trying to help me fix my son," Lax said.
