Former ‘Dancing with the Stars' Contestant and Actor David Arquette Thanks God For Sobriety

Actor and former “Dancing With the Stars” cast member David Arquette has thanked God as he reached one year of sobriety Saturday.

“Today marks one year of sobriety for me,” wrote the 40-year-old actor on his Twitter account. “I thank God for the strength and guidance and my family and friends for their love and support & I (thank you).”

Arquette had endured a very public battle with alcohol, and his separation from wife, actress Courtney Cox, was also covered extensively by the media. According to the Daily Mail, the actor and his estranged wife have been working on their relationship since his visit to rehab last year.

While appearing on season 13 of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” Arquette was a popular contestant with his upbeat attitude. He often spoke about his family, and attributed his progress on the show to his 3-year-old daughter Coco. Upon his elimination from the show, his optimism remained unfaltering.

“I learned a lot about myself, I faced my fears, and I gave American a chance to know me better,” he said backstage after being sent home from the dancing competition. “And I definitely learned how to dance!”

His former “Dancing With the Stars” cast mates chimed in on Twitter congratulating him on his one-year sobriety, Chaz Bono tweeted, “So proud of you man.”

The only child of Sonny and Cher, Bono continued, “The first year is such a huge accomplishment, savor it. I’m sending out big love to you pal.”

Ricki Lake, who came in at second place on season 13 of “Dancing With the Starts,” wrote, “Congratulations David! Xoxo.”

As a result of his newfound sobriety, the actor has kept busy with several positive activities. Practicing drawing, Arquette included images of recent works earlier this month on his Twitter account such as the “Jesus piece” he created with stencils.

In September, the actor embarked on a trip to Africa with nonprofit organization Malaria No More. Arquette distributed mosquito nets to families in need and spoke to parents working to prevent malaria as he raised awareness and funds for the organization.
