Miami Heat Latest News: Greg Oden Felony Charges for Alleged Domestic Violence
Greg Oden, a former Miami Heat player and free agent, was arrested sometime after 3:30 a.m. EST Thursday after allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend during an argument.
He is facing a level 5 felony battery charge which resulted in serious bodily injury as well as two more misdemeanor charges on domestic battery and battery resulting in serious injury. His offense could put the NBA player behind bars from one up to six years.
Court documents have stated that the victim needed three stitches between the eyebrows. Her left eye was also nearly swollen shut and she will have to wait until the swelling disappears before her nasal bone fracture can be straightened.
The documents also stated that Oden continually hit his ex-girlfriend even when she went down but eventually stopped when he saw that she was bleeding. The victim explained that she and Oden, along with another friend, went to the club that night and Oden had a few shots of alcohol and some beers.
She claimed that Oden sometimes got upset whenever he drinks and that their relationship has been experiencing difficulties lately. The two began to argue once they got to Oden's mother's house where the alleged battery happened. He was then promptly arrested.
Oden first entered the NBA draft in 2007, where he was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the no. 1 overall pick. On July 1, 2007 he was opted to sign a contract which provided two guaranteed seasons and team options for the third and fourth season.
Later that year, however, he underwent microfracture surgery for his right knee and missed the entire season. Earlier this year, Oden signed with the Miami Heat where they made it to the NBA finals only to lose against the San Antonio Spurs in the series of five games.
