'Fortnite: Battle Royale' News: 3.7 Million Daily Active Users Recorded

Epic Games' co-op survival video game "Fortnite" has scored a new milestone with its latest mode.

Two weeks after the release of "Battle Royale" mode for "Fortnite," the game developer has announced that a new record of its daily active users (DAU) over the weekend. According to Video Gamer, the number reached the 3.7 million mark, while there were 525,000 concurrent players on all platforms logged. The co-op's popularity is expected to increase further, as many players across North America, Europe, and Oceania take advantage of the opportunity to play the free game.

"Fortnite: Battle Royale" is heavily based on Bluehole's multiplayer online battle royale video, "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds," with its "last man standing" 100 player PvP mode. Previously, Bluehole expressed their apprehensions over the gameplay's similarities. The fact that "Battle Royale" is being offered free on all platforms is also a source of concern for the developer. Chang Han Kim, Bluehole's vice president and executive producer, said they were already looking into the matter.

"We've had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG's development as they are the creators of UE4, the engine we licensed for the game. After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known."

The VP added: "We have also noticed that Epic Games references PUBG in the promotion of Fortnite to their community and in communications with the press. This was never discussed with us and we don't feel that it's right."

Meanwhile, according to PC Invasion, Epic Games has announced that they are blocking VPN users from playing "Battle Royale." For the past weeks, gamers have been complaining about the rampant cheating happening in the game. Based on the notice, the developer will be kicking out those who will access the mode via a VPN service. It is important to note, though, that there will be no action taken against the player's account.

"Fortnite Battle Royale" is currently playable on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
