Fox Co-Host Rape Remark Sparks Firestorm of Criticism (VIDEO)

A Fox co-host's rape remark has sparked strong backlash, after he questioned the prevalence of rape on college campuses across America.

Fox News co-host, Bob Beckel, who appears on "The Five" program, posed a question to his colleagues on the show on Tuesday, asking: "When was the last time you heard about a rape on campus?

Co-host Eric Bolling responded, "What are you talking about? It's rampant."

Another co-host, Dana Perino, also weighed in on Beckel's comments, "In particular, date rape on campus."

The panel of Fox News analysts were conducting a round table into the proposed ban on concealed weapons on Colorado campuses.

The debate had been sparked by Democratic Colorado Rep. Joe Salazar, who had said on the issue: "It's why we have call boxes. It's why we have safe zones. That's why we have the whistles, because you just don't know who you're going to be shooting at.

"And you don't know if you feel like you're gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone's been following you around or if you feel like you're in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop ... pop a round at somebody."

Salazar's comments drew criticism from conservatives. Republican Colorado Rep. Lori Saine responded to his comments, "It is so enormously inappropriate to assume that a woman that is trained and has a concealed-carry permit will just pop off."

The Department of Justice estimated in 2010 that 25 percent of college women would be "victims of rape or attempted rape before they graduate within a four-year college period."

The report also noted that women aged between "16 to 24 will experience rape at a rate that's four times higher than the assault rate of all women."
