Frank Ocean Is Gay? Fans React After Learning of Alleged Homosexuality
Frank Ocean, up-and-coming singer and songwriter who has become known for appearing on rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch The Throne" album, is reportedly admitting his homosexuality on his debut album, which comes as a surprise to fans.
Ocean, 24, gained notoriety when he wrote songs for the likes of Justin Bieber and John Legend. After his 2011 mixed tape debut of "Nostalgia, Ultra," the budding artist caught the attention of West, Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce.
While his voice is recognized on the hook of the rappers' song, "No Church in the Wild,"
some of Ocean's fans may find the subject matter on his upcoming debut album "Channel Orange" even wilder.
The young singer reportedly refers to love interests on his album as "him" instead of "her," causing some to question his sexuality. In a review of his debut studio album, Max/BBC 1 Xtra spoke about Ocean "coming out of the closet."
"Frank has also opened up about his sexuality on the album," the review stated. "On the songs 'Bad Religion,' 'Pink Matter' and 'Forrest Gump,' you can hear him sing about being in love and there are quite obvious words used like 'him' and not 'her'."
While many stars in urban music have been rumored to be homosexual, none have outed themselves at the height of their career the way Ocean has reportedly done. Fans of Ocean's music discussed the possibilities of him being homosexual on Twitter.
"Frank Ocean admits his gayness in his new album," one person tweeted. "What is the world coming to?"
Another said that the knowledge of Ocean's alleged homosexuality may have changed the tone of his music.
"Now that Frank Ocean has come out of the closet, all his songs have a residual difference," a male Twitter fan wrote.
Some fans did not want to admit that Ocean could be homosexual or bisexual.
"Until Frank Ocean confirms it, Frank Ocean is not bisexual," the person said.
Ocean has not acknowledged the rumors or comments about his official debut album that reportedly reveals the gender of his love interests. The album is scheduled for a July 17 release.
