After arriving at the hospital, Muniz was told that he had suffered a minor stroke. The actor later corroborated the story on his Twitter account.

"I was in the hospital last Friday," Muniz tweeted. "I suffered a 'Mini Stroke', which was not fun at all. Have to start taking care of my body! Getting old!"

Doctors are still unclear about what might have caused the stroke. The actor is still awaiting results, according to TMZ. Fans responded by stating that the actor was "too young" to suffer from a stroke. But according to a new study that was published in the journal Neurology, strokes amongst young people have become more prevalent.

Based on a study of 1.3 million Americans, strokes occurring in patients age 20 to 54 jumped from 12.9 percent in 1993 and 1994 to 18.6 percent in 2005, according to an ABC report.

The study attributed the cause of strokes in a younger age group to the prevalence of risk factors amongst those people.

Study author, Dr. Brett Kissela of the University of Cincinnati in Ohio noted "the prevalence of stroke risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, [coronary heart disease] and current smoking are all elevated in the younger stroke population compared with the population survey."

The report also acknowledged that "obesity and diabetes are on the rise in young adults."
