On Twitter, users are sharing their plans for Free Shipping Day this year, including Sierra who posted, "FREE 2-day shipping is in effect! Order now to ensure your gifts get under the tree in time…"
"Christmas Eve is a week from today," another Twitter user reminded his followers. "Done with your shopping? Don't forget free shipping day it tomorrow!"
The shopping event was reportedly created by Luke Knowles and his wife who own the year-round free shipping website FreeShipping.org. The Knowles couple found that online shopping has become more attractive to consumers, with the exception of delivery fees.
"Merchants would relish the opportunity to extend the online holiday shopping season, which is fast becoming the preferred mode of buying for those who dread crowded malls and rain checks," said Knowles, according to the International Business Times.
Even with statistics proving that online shopping is on the rise, Knowles knew that shoppers would ditch their virtual carts when charged steep delivery fees. Henceforth, Free Shipping Day is now more popular than ever six years after its inception.
