Gaddafi Dead: 53 Gaddafi Supporters Found Slaughtered in Libya Hotel (VIDEO)
The bodies of 53 people believed to be supporters of Col. Moammar el-Gaddafi have been discovered executed in a hotel in Sirte, the hometown of the slain dictator.
Bound and shot, the bodies were found in a garden behind the abandoned hotel, according to Peter Bouckaert, the emergencies director at Human Rights Watch.
“We found 53 decomposing bodies, apparently Gaddafi supporters, at an abandoned hotel in Sirte," said Bouckaert. "Some had their hands bound behind their backs when they were shot."
The bodies were at the Mahari Hotel in Sirte, and placed into body bags by local residents. The hotel was allegedly under control of anti-Gaddafi fighters from Misrata at the time the 53 were apparently executed.
The bodies were found on Sunday, lying on the grass of the abandoned hotel. It is believed the victims were killed in the sea-view garden there.
The names of several brigades were found scrawled on the entrance of the hotel which is in an area of Sirte that had been held by fighters opposed to the Gaddafi regime since October.
Meanwhile, the corpse of Gaddafi and his son Mutassim lie in a Misrata market cooler; three days after they were to have been buried according to Islamic law. According to regular observance followers of Islam are to buried within 24 hours of death.
