Gaddafi Dead: Burial Delayed to Probe Bloody Death (PHOTOS)
The burial of former Libyan tyrant Muammar Gaddafi has been delayed by Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) Friday.
According to officials, the delay will allow them to arrange a secret location for the burial and conduct a more thorough investigation into his death.
Earlier on Friday an investigation into the death of Gaddafi was called for by the U.N. human rights office, upon many videos surfacing showing the leader being captured alive.
Gaddafi, who ruled Libya for 42 years, was killed Thursday after being captured by NTC fighters in his hometown of Sirte.
It has not yet been confirmed how exactly the events leading to his death unfolded, but CNN reports that he was shot as his captors tried to load him into a vehicle and drive away.
"The two cell phone videos that have emerged, one of him alive, and one of him dead, taken together are very disturbing," said Rupert Colville, spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Gaddafi’s body is currently being kept in a cold storage site in Misrata. Mohamed Sayed, a senior NTC member, told AP that a “third party will come from outside of Libya to go through the paperwork” regarding Gaddafi’s death.
Sayed also added that the dead leader will be given a private burial in accordance with Islamic principles.
