Gail Simmons Pregnant, Wants Sex of Child to 'Be a Surprise'

"Top Chef" and "Top Chef Masters" judge Gail Simmons is expecting her first child with husband Jeremy Abrams this winter. The two married five years ago in a farmers' market-themed wedding and revealed that they do not want to know the sex of the baby.

She is currently six months pregnant and had a great deal of food offered to her while filming the latest season of "Top Chef." The new season premieres on Oct. 2, and Simmons spoke about the amount of food she ate while filming.

"I'm eating every day in great quantity," she told People. "I had a lot of cravings for popsicles and peanut butter… not together. All I wanted for breakfast was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and all I wanted in the afternoon was a popsicle because it was 100 degrees."

Simmons has been part of the "Top Chef" family for several years, and her child will be one of many behind the scenes. Host Tom Colicchio has three sons; Padma Lakshmi has one daughter, and "Top Chef Masters" host Curtis Stone also has one son. There will be plenty of playmates ready for Simmons' little one.

Lakshmi is a good friend and mentor to Simmons, who only recently began hosting "Top Chef Masters" alongside Stone. Many thought that the two leading ladies had a feud offset but Simmons denied such a thing.

"I have amazing respect for Padma… She has been incredibly supportive, and I realize now just how much work she does. The role of the host is a lot more complex than people think it is. I'm the Mary Ann to her Ginger, we like to say," Simmons said in 2011.

She told People that she and Abrams want the sex of the baby "to be a surprise" but are very excited to meet their son or daughter. One thing that Simmons does know is that she is "gonna grow! That's for sure."

"Top Chef" premiers on the Bravo network on October 2.
