Samsung has recently updated its much-acclaimed midrange lineup of smartphones with the release of the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 2017.
Both promise excellent performance and amazing features so those who are thinking of taking home either model should base their purchase on what they need in a smartphone and their budget, of course.

On paper, the only differences these smartphones have are the size of their displays and the battery they are packing. Other than that, these Samsung Galaxy A 2017 devices are identical.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 sports a 5.7-inch display while the Galaxy A5 2017 has a smaller 5.2-inch screen, but both offer a Full high-definition (HD) resolution.
They are both powered by the octa-core Samsung Exynos 7880 processor coupled with 3 GB random-access memory (RAM) and 32 GB storage that is expandable to 256 GB with a microSD card.
These new Samsung Galaxy A devices also share the same camera department. There is a 16-megapixel (MP) camera on the back and another 16 MP on the front.
The Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 and the Galaxy A7 2017 are water and dust resistant, boasting an IP68 rating. It is this feature that gives these midrangers the flagship feel.
Add to that their fingerprint scanner, which is designed to seamlessly work with the Samsung Pay, which Gizmodo Australia says make these devices practically Samsung Galaxy S7 in a new coat.
Although the devices are almost the same, the difference in their battery makes a big distinction between the two. Although the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017's 3,000 mAh battery is worthy of praise, it is the 3,600 mAh battery of the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 that steals the show.
This is saying something because the former's battery life is already deemed by Know Your Mobile to be one of the best available in the market right now.
One turnoff about these midrangers, however, is the software. Instead of the new Android 7.0 Nougat, they come with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow instead.
Because of these, both the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 and the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 miss out on the battery-improving features that the current-generation Android firmware has. Other than that, the handsets are acclaimed by many.
Now it all comes down to the pricing. The Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 is priced at $649 while the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 comes with a bigger $799 price tag.
