Galaxy Nexus Release Date: ASUS Set to Release First Quad-Core Phone
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Nexus smartphone was rumored to be the first handset using a quad-core processor, but at its unveiling last month, it was revealed that this device would only have a dual-core.
It was originally going to be called the Galaxy Nexus “Prime,” but that name was dropped along with the rumored power upgrade.
ASUS unveiled a device that includes a quad-core processor along with the name “Prime.”

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime will be the first tablet to have this type of processor, but the company is also planning to a release a smartphone with a quad-core called the Padfone.
“ASUS will launch the previously announced Padfone in February, and it will run on Tegra 3 and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich,” wrote GizmoCrunch on its website regarding the new device.
The Eee Pad Transformer is set for a Nov. 9 launch and the Padfone will join the tablet sometime in February of 2012.
ASUS will gain the title of “first quad-core phone,” a spot many believed would be filled by Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus.
The company describes the new device as a “combination between a pad and phone" hence the name Padfone. It was unveiled earlier this year when the Transformer Prime made its debut.
The company’s Chairperson Jonney Shih who described it as a “mystery product” at first revealed the Padfone. He went on to pull the Padfone out from behind the Transformer Prime to reveal the device to the public.
It seems that Padfone attaches on to the back of the tablet creating a combination device. This was shown during the unveiling by Shih.
Most current smartphones are running on dual-core processors.
This puts ASUS ahead of the game with power once the Padfone launches next year.
