Galaxy Nexus Release Date: Few Smartphone Accessories at Verizon Wireless Online Store
Information about the soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been scarce, just as accessories for the smartphone seem to be.
A member of Android Forums discovered, while attempting to find more information about the Galaxy Nexus, that only one accessory is currently listed at the Verizon Wireless online store for the smartphone.
The website listed a universal portable power pack that retails for $49.99 and nothing else.
Accessory pages for devices are usually fully stocked with complementary merchandise such as headsets, docks, chargers, batteries, and cases.
Industry insiders are unsure whether consumers should take the discovery as a bad sign, that something may be wrong with the release of the Galaxy Nexus or as a good sign, that with at least one accessory up for sale, the Galaxy Nexus may also soon be available for purchase.
Technology website Phandroid noted that despite little information being known about the United States release of the Galaxy Nexus, the presence of the accessory page indicates the phone will release eventually.
Verizon Wireless has not yet announced an official release date for the Galaxy Nexus and has only stated that the smartphone will release "later this year."
Industry insiders suggest the phone may release on Nov. 21, according to Verizon's advertisement "Roadmap" that details that the phone’s advertisement begins after Black Friday weekend.
Recent reports reveal that the Federal Communications Commission has approved the Galaxy Nexus for retail.
FCC approval may be another indicator that the phone is on its way to being released.
A number of other devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, have seen prompt releases following being reviewed by the FCC.
