The Galaxy Note 3 brought the first significant change to the Galaxy line with a new special plastic backing that gives the appearance of leather. It gives the device a classier look and is a step in the right direction from the normal hard plastic backings and shells found on the Galaxy S and Note lines. The Moto X brings customization to a whole new level with the Moto Maker where buyers can transform the outside appearance of the device to their liking. Motorola launched the new bamboo wood backing that is quite original to the smartphone market. The company has truly taken the exterior handset design to a whole new level giving it the advantage in this area.

Display

The Moto X phone features a last-generation display that measures in at 4.7-inches with 1280x720 pixels at 316 ppi. It is still impressive despite the advancements made in the past year with other handsets. The Galaxy Note 3 features one of the most state of the art displays on the market which measures in at 5.7-inchs with 1920x1080 pixels at 386ppi. It is one of the clearest Super AMOLEDs to date and easily outclasses the Moto X in this area with its vivid colors and detail.

Speed

The Moto X features the companies X8 computing system with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip while the Galaxy Note 3 comes with a Snapdragon 800 processor. Both devices are extremely fast in their own right; however, the Note 3 might have the advantage due to 3GB of RAM. The Moto X only comes with 2GB. Either way, speed should not be an issue for either of these handsets.

Camera

The Moto X features a 10-megapixel camera with LED flash and High Dynamic Range mode. It can also record video in 1080p. The Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 13-megapixel rear shooter that also has LED flash and a slew of other features including High Dynamic Range Mode, a back illuminated sensor, CMOS image sensor, burst mode and much more. It also has the ability to record video in 4K. The Galaxy Note 3 has the clear advantage in this department.

Conclusion

The Moto X is a pretty innovative device; however, it is slightly behind in terms of specs. The Galaxy Note 3 basically features the best of what's currently out on the market making it extremely tough to compete with. The Moto X is smaller and easier to carry around. It can probably be purchased at a cheaper price through most retailers and carriers. The Galaxy Note 3 still outclasses it when it comes to raw power and abilities. Shelling out the extra cash for this behemoth might just be worth your money.
