Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rolls Out for International Version
The Android 4.4 KitKat update is now rolling out for the Galaxy S4 Active international version.
It is currently available in the Netherlands for the unlocked model and is listed under the firmware number I9295XXUCNE5. It is 1.3GB so users should turn on Wi-Fi with enough battery before upgrading.
The update gives users improved performance and battery life. It also brings some tweaks to the UI including all the white icons in the status bar and a camera shortcut on the lock screen. Wireless Printing is also now available.
The update should hit other countries during the next few weeks.
The Android 4.4 KitKat update is also rolling out for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.
Sony started pushing out the software earlier this month. The update will bring better overall performance and UI optimization to each of these devices.
The new UI features PS4-style launch animation, live wallapapers and a new, revamped Status and Quick Settings bar that allows users to customize to better keep tabs on their notifications.
Several of Sony's apps including Messaging, Email, Smart Social camera, and Battery Stamina mode will be revamped with the update with refreshed animations, smoother operation, and small functionality additions.
The Xperia Themes customization center will also be available once the new software is downloaded.
Other Sony devices such as the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 will start receiving KitKat in May.
Android 4.4 KitKat made its debut at the end of last year on the Nexus 5 smartphone. It has already rolled out for other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S4 and certain Galaxy S3 models. The Galaxy S5 runs the software out of the box.
