Galaxy S4 Android 4.2.2 Software Update Corrects Earphone Distortion Issue
AT&T recently issued a Galaxy S4 Android 4.2.2 software update that corrects the issue users were having with distortion on their earphones.
Various owners of the device were reporting that a certain amount of cracking was heard while listening to music at certain volume levels when they used their third party headphones. This was not the case for every type of headphones, as some worked perfectly fine on the device. The Samsung set that came with the smartphone also worked well.
The Christian Post also encountered the cracking when using the Sony sport earphones with the device. Samsung and Apple Earbuds did not have this same problem.
Many bloggers speculated that the issue was software-related since it wasn't the case with all models of the Galaxy S4. After testing four different models, the white AT&T variant was the only one CP experienced the issue with.
AT&T rolled out a relatively small software update last week that flew under the radar. That distortion and cracking was gone, allowing users to use any set of headphones.
The Galaxy S4 is currently available on all major U.S. carriers. AT&T users should have received a notification to perform the software update sometime this month. It's relatively small and does not take that long to install. It does not bring many other noticeable changes to the smartphone aside from an update to the double swipe pull down menu and the addtion of Smart Pause.
The Galaxy S4 is expected to receive the Android 4.3 update in the near future. Google introduced the new build of the software at the end of last month and launched it on the new Nexus 7 tablet.
