Galaxy S4 to Feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipset
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is now rumored to be featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset instead of the Exynos 5 Octa it was originally expected to use for power.
This rumor was taken from a South Korean media site that stated that Samsung's new Exynos 5 Octa-core chipsets would consume too much power and generate too much heat if used to power the company's next flagship smartphone.
There are certain advantages to running the Qualcomm quad-core processer such as its baseband radio that has the ability to cover most of the world's networks. The processor has also showed up in recent benchmarks for the Galaxy S4.
Unlike the Galaxy S3, the smartphone will only come in one variant, so Samsung fans will not see an international version running the Exynos 5, according to YouMobile.org.
A device that could be the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 showed up in a benchmark report last week.
The smartphone in the benchmark features a 1.9GHz Qualcomm processor paired with Adreno 320. This would also contradict some of the recent rumors which point to the device having the latest Exynos 5 chip. Surprisingly, the device is not running the latest build of Android and there is word that the Verizon model will not launch until May. The device was originally expected to make its debut at this year's Mobile World Congress.
The Galaxy S4 release appears to be near as pictures allegedly taken by the device's camera surfaced on the internet this week.
The photos surfaced on Picasa web and according to the benchmarks posted on the site, the smartphone will feature a better resolution of 2322 x 4128 pixels. This supports recent rumors which state that the Galaxy S4 will feature a 13-megapixel camera.
However, the photo allegedly taken by the camera is nothing impressive and is most likely a fake given that the detail and overall quality of it is very poor and not up to speed with most 8-megapixel cameras, let alone a 13-megapixel one.
