Galaxy S4 Will Double Samsung's Lead Over Competition, Analysts Predict

IHS analysts are making bold predictions for Samsung stating that the Galaxy S4 will double the company's lead over its competitors such as Apple and Nokia.

The Galaxy S4 has already become the most pre-registered smartphone in the history of U.K. retailer Carphone Warehouse, showing the immense demand for the device.

IHS also believes that Samsung will increase its lead over Nokia currently at 5 percent to 11 percent.

IHS Research released a list that ranked the top Global Unit Shipments for 2012, which had Samsung in the lead with 29 percent. Nokia came in second with 24 percent and Apple was third with 10 percent.

Samsung was able to create interest for its Galaxy S line by pitting it directly against the iPhone. Various ads were released throughout 2012 that showed what Samsung believed was a superior smartphone to Apple's.

This Galaxy S4 was finally unveiled by Samsung at last week's Mobile "Unpacked" event in New York City.

Many of the rumored specifications were dead on, including the 5-inch display with 441 ppi. However, rumors of Samsung switching to LCD were incorrect, as the device still packs a Super AMOLED.

The Galaxy S4 will come in two colors at launch: Black Mist and White Frost. It also has LTE and HSPA+ connectivity.

Other rumored specs such as the 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera, and Android 4.2.2 JellyBean are also featured on the Galaxy S4.

Various tech outlets were correct in predicting that Samsung would launch the Galaxy S4 with two different processors. The device will with feature the new 1.6GHz Exynos Octa-core chip or 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm, depending on the market.

The smartphone will also feature the rumored eye-tracking technology so the device will automatically perform tasks based on where the user's eyes are along with smart pause, which pauses a video once the user looks away from the device.

The Galaxy S4 will come in three different memory capacities including 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Samsung announced that it will be available in 155 countries on 327 mobile carriers by the end of April.
