Galaxy S5 Rumors: Device to Be Offered in Plastic and Metal, Specs Revealed

The Galaxy S5 will be offered in both plastic and metal options.

A new report from Sam Mobile gives details on Samsung's plans for the next-gen flagship and states that the company will offer a cheaper plastic model and a premium metal version.

The plastic S5 will be priced around $887 and will feature the same Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU in all markets which is rumored to be the 805 chip. It will come with an AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560x1440 and will have a 16-megapixel rear shooter. It will run Android 4.4 KitKat.

The metal Galaxy S5 will have more impressive specs that include a 64-bit Exynos 6 CPU which will have the ability to run all eight cores at once. This chip will be used on all versions of the metal S5, even in LTE markets.

The metal model could even feature a different name and will be known as the Galaxy F. Better specs will command higher cost, which could fall around $1092. The rest of the specs will remain the same on the metal version.

Sam Mobile's sources also revealed that Samsung will release an S5 Zoom and an S5 Mini which are already being designed. Those are expected to hit the market in May or June. Specs on the Zoom will include a 4.8-inch qHD display and will come with Android 4.4 pre-installed.

The publication did not mention anything about an official release date for either model, but Samsung recently confirmed that the S5 will arrive sometime before April.

The Executive Vice President of Samsung's mobile division Lee Young Hee recently revealed in an interview with Bloomberg that the device will be available by that time and that it could end up featuring an eye scanner to compete with Apple's fingerprint based Touch ID.
