Galaxy S5 Vs. iPhone 5C: Spec by Spec Comparison
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was unveiled earlier this week and the new device packs pretty impressive specs that out class many of today's smartphones.
The iPhone 5c is Apple's answer to the demand for a cheaper smartphone, but the main problem with this device is that it constantly gets outshined by its bigger brother, the iPhone 5s. The Apple handset still features some pretty impressive specs, and with the low price tag, it could be a better value overall than the S5, which will probably sell for somewhere around $650 off-contract and $200 with one.

Camera
The iPhone 5c features the same 8-megapixel camera that is found on the iPhone 5, which is tough to beat. It comes with a sapphire crystal lens cover, face detection, panorama and Tap to focus. Samsung put a lot of energy into the point-and-shooter on the Galaxy S5 as it is 16-megapixels and comes with some interesting features such as High Dynamic Range, Selective Focus and the fastest autofocus on the market. Despite the consistency of Apple's cameras, Samsung has a bit more to offer in this department.
Display
The Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 1980 x 1080 resolution while the iPhone 5c features a 4-inch screen at 1136 x 640 resolution at 326 ppi. Both screens have great picture for their sizes so this area might come down to preference. Apple definitely scores points for portability since they chose to keep it small, while Samsung might be better for those who travel on long commutes and like to watch videos in high-defintion along the way.
Design
The iPhone 5c took a different route than the regular iPhone as Apple chose to give it a plastic body that comes in various colors. This makes it appealing to kids, and affordable for those who don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a smartphone. The Galaxy S5 features Samsung's new "glam" design with perforated backing which gives the device a different look from previous models. However, it still lacks the classiness of appearance that is found in the iPhone 5s and Samsung's own Note 3. The iPhone 5c takes it in this are due to a better design.
Software
The version of TouchWiz found on the Galaxy S5 looks very similar to one on the Galaxy S4, which runs much better with Android 4.4 KitKat. However, Apple's iOS 7 runs extremely smooth on its handsets with a great marriage of hardware and software. Android integrating in Samsung devices normally generates lagging and other issues. Apple might have a bit of an advantage here in terms of consistency with software, but Samsung could always correct its problems with better builds.
Conclusion
In terms of specs, the iPhone 5c is no match for the Galaxy S5. But in terms of value, it may just be a phone worth looking into. At only $99 for the 16GB version, Apple's lower-end iPhone is a great buy. The Galaxy S5 will definitely be expensive when it comes out and it might not be worth it to switch from a Galaxy S4 to the new version. However, upgrading from an iPhone 4s or 4 to the 5c is a slam dunk no matter which way you look at it.
