'Gambit' to Start Production in October, Casting Call Revealed
"Gambit" is probably what Twentieth Century Fox is banking on to replace the successful solo franchise of "Wolverine." With the star power of its lead star, Channing Tatum, this may not be far off from happening. The movie is set to bow in theaters in October 2016 so reports are saying the production is set to start soon.
According to a report in Cinema Blend, production needs to start soon as the movie's release date is a little over a year away. And given that only its lead star so far has been cast, the report also mentioned that the movie is currently doing casting calls for the movie's supporting actors and actresses.
The report also cited their source of the casting calls as the website Showbiz411. The casting call, as listed by the website, mentioned 14 characters, each with specific character descriptions. In some cases, because of the nature of the story, the casting call required the actor or actress to speak fluent French. Of the 14 characters, only three are females, including one 10-12 year old while the rest are male.
Most of the characters listed in the call seem to have some criminal past, which led the report to speculate that the movie is taking the origins treatment, meaning it wants to explore how "Gambit" came to be, as a member of the Thieves Guild. That the movie will be shot in Louisiana also gives credence to the "origins" treatment.
The report however went a step further and tried to identify which of the characters in the call would be playing major characters in the movie.
The one named Louis, 40s-50s, "elegant and intelligent and an appealing entrepreneur with an unexpected dark side," according to the report, sounded like the character of Mr. Sinister. Another female, Vera, is described as mid-20s, "beautiful, smart, tough, fiery and unpredictable." The report claimed that this might be referring to Gambit's childhood friend, Bella Donna Boudreaux, who was later on arranged to be married to Gambit in order to consolidate power among the guilds.
