'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Cast Keeps Growing: Indira Varma to Play Ellaria Sand

It was recently announced that actress Indira Varma has been added to the cast of HBO's critically acclaimed historical-fiction drama show "Game of Thrones."

Varma is set to play Ellaria Sand, according to Entertainment Weekly. It appears that Sand will serve as a romantic interest for Prince Oberyn Martell, otherwise known as "The Red Viper."

Varma is no stranger to historical-fiction shows, nor to HBO. From 2005 through 2007 she played the role of Niobe on HBO's "Rome."

Her love interest in "Game of Thrones" Oberyn Martell is the prince of Dorne, and also a new character added to the season four cast recently. His backstory is complicated and dark, as his young sister was murdered by Gregor Clegane, who is a knight of Lannister. So, it is safe to assume that the prince will be out for vengeance and gunning for the Lannister family during his debut season.

Pedro Pascal is the official choice for the role, though the casting decision was not an easy choice, as "Game of Thrones," showrunners David Benioff and Dan Wiess told Entertainment Weekly in an interview.

"This was a tough one. The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn't easy to find and he won't be easy to stop," they said.
