'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Casting, Oberyn to Be Played by Pedro Pascal
One of the most anticipated new characters of HBO's fourth season of the hit drama "Game of Thrones" has been cast. Chilean actor Pedro Pascal has been selected to play Prince Oberyn Martell, perhaps more well known by the menacing name The Red Viper.
Oberyn Martell is the prince of Dorne. His backstory is complicated and dark, as his young sister was murdered by Gregor Clegane, who is a knight of Lannister. So, it is safe to assume that the prince will be out for vengeance and gunning for the Lannister family during his debut season.
Pedro Pascal is the official choice for the role, though the casting decision was not an easy choice, as "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and Dan Wiess told Entertainment Weekly in an interview.
"This was a tough one. The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn't easy to find and he won't be easy to stop," they said.
Pedro Pascal is no stranger to television dramas, as he has been acting in television for many years. In 2009, Pascal had a recurring role as Omar Assarian on "Lights Out," according to IMBD.com. From 2009-2011, he played Nathan Landry on CBS's hit "The Good Wife." And he currently has a recurring role on the new show "Graceland." He plays Juan Badillo on that USA drama.
