'Game of Thrones' Season 7 News: Premiere Date Revealed With 'Great War' Teaser
HBO has finally revealed a premiere date for the seventh season of "Game of Thrones." After a longer wait and a lot of hype, the fantasy series will return on July 16.
The big announcement was accompanied by a new teaser. And while the video did not feature appearances from actual characters, fans do hear familiar voices speaking in the background. The clip mainly features stone figures of each house's sigil. It opens with a three-headed dragon as Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) voice narrates. But by the end of the clip, the stone sculptures crumble and Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) voice is heard.
"There's only one war that matters—the great war. And it is here," Jon says as the camera zooms out to reveal an eye with the same bluish tinge that a White Walker has.
A new poster has also been released as part of the promotional campaign. It features a backdrop that teases the collision between fire and ice this season.
As previously reported, the upcoming season will see several characters meeting for the first time, and another handful reuniting after a long separation. One such reunion is speculated to be between Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and her direwolf, Nymeria, whom she has not seen since season 1.
And while fans are definitely excited to see familiar faces once again, season 7 will also feature some notable names making guest appearances. One of these names is Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard. According to the New York Post, Syndergaard completed filming his cameo in Spain last November.
"Game of Thrones" is certainly no stranger to having famous faces make guest appearances. Will Champion of Coldplay and Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol are only a couple of names that come to mind.
With an official premiere date set, fans can only count the days until the iconic "Game of Thrones" opening theme is heard on television once again.
